Meryl Streep Playing Margaret Thatcher

Imagine what it felt like for Margaret Thatcher to be in meetings and constant conversation with her male counterparts. In a then and now male dominated world, the first woman Prime Minister must have been so intimidated and probably did not know how to deal with this. However, this did not stop her from doing her best and proving to the world that she could be as good as the men were. Her determination and her execution of policies and strategies earned her three re-elections in an economy that was hit hard by recession.

Forget about imagination, we now have a chance to experience what Margaret went through, and how she was able to succeed in her leadership. Meryl Streep is once more bringing to life Margaret Thatcher’s epic story. She is currently in London filming The Iron Lady by Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd. The film also stars Jim Broadbent as Denis Thatcher. Margaret Thatcher’s courage, determination and persistence remind me of great people in our history. February being the Black History month, I am only compelled to mention people we hold dear to our hearts and have great awe for their sacrifice and courage to bring change to this land. These are women and men like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., Fredrick Douglass, Marcus Garvey, Linda Brown, and Ruby Bridges just to mention but a few.

I can only imagine what today would be without people who make constant sacrifices for others to be free. Having the courage to say you are my brother, my sister and I want to hold your hand and walk down this road together. It is up to each one of us to build healthy relationships with our fellow beings, regardless of our differences in our belief systems, skin color, sexual orientation, or our physical abilities. What a better place the world would be with such perfect harmony!
